What should my '88 GTS idle at while warming up? I think I'm idling too high. Would the air control valve be responsible for that?

i would think around 1200 cold.

Yeah? I figured somewhere around there. Then I've definitely still got an A/F issue. I'm idling nearer 2,000 RPM until I warm up. The more I read about various sensors, the more I think I should have replaced everything at once. So, I'm gonna check the new TPS and order new coolant temp sensor and coolant temp sender, air control valve, O2, and check the TVIS-VSV and cold start valve (the cold start injector was rebuilt with the fuel injectors). Somewhere in there I must have a problem that's getting in the way of my ECU balancing things out well enough. Guess no trip to the SMOG station yet.....

or you have a vacuum leak. or the idle control valve is stuck.

Better not be a vacuum leak. I replaced all hosing with brand new silicone - even found red to match paint:) And, since intake/exhaust manifolds were machined with block and head and everyone has new gaskets - I'm gonna be bummed if it is a leak.

I'm betting it's the 185,000 mile idle control valve - at least that's what I want it to be, or one of the sensor/switches I might as well replace since they all have 185,000 miles on them, too.

Turns out my oil pan gasket isn't leaking. It was coolant dripping down from the outlet hose that I didn't clamped quite right. The problem of using Royal Purple additive with Toyota red coolant - looks just like RP oil (and RP PS fluid, and RP tranny fluid - something to remember, use different color fluids for easier leak ID).

Anyway, thanks for the feedback and here's to a bad ICV and no vacuum leaks!

On the up side, before the lower end went again, the idle speed (cold and warm) were perfect and very stable after replacing the IACV and TPS. To bad I threw a rod bearing five miles down the road....

Which part of "DO NOT START IT AGAIN!!! till the problem is fixed" did you not understand????
Oh well - another entry for my ignore list

Please guys - if you are going to waste everybody's time by making posts and then completely ignoring advice,
trying to argue with the helper etc -expect to get yourself ignored in future.

It makes no difference how many rev counters you have or how shiny your mags, steering &
gearnob are, whether or not your stereo makes 50 000 watts - if you neglect your
running gear, the only ride you'll be making is by bus to the bank to beg for a pile of money!
