Ive found recently that my car idles at 1k now that winter has set im. Its done this sicne I can remember actauly, sometimes after I restart the engine and its hot it will idle at 750 but only if restarted hot. Im not concerned really, but I have to do an etest in a couple weeks and I know they do an idle test (curb idle). If the test is RPM based, like X amount of polutants at Y rpm i dont care but It might be just a base line I have to beat.

Im gonna try to lube up the throttle wire, cuz its a posibility and id like to adjust my TPS so im gonna get a Volt guage tonight and do that. Is it as simple as adjusting an idle speed screw?

The Idle speed screw is on the throttle body on the top there, just adjust that. Wouldnt lubing your cable make it slip?

And you will find an idle adjusting screw

Thanks SIr, is the adjustment as easy as I hope it will be? just a turn of the screw and everything will be A-OK? Any info on adjusting the TPS, I got a volt meter and would like to calibrate it but its not as easy as I was hoping for

Turn the car on and adjust the screw to were you want it. Tighter = Higher idle. Looser = lower idle. If you dont know what your doing, i sugest leaving your TPS adjusting to your auto electrician.

Don't even worry about it. My car idles at 2k -2.5k on really cold mornings. It's so the motor will warm up quicker, but yeah, it is pretty annoying cuz it burns tons of fuel.

Im concerned about my etest, I need to pass a curb idle test. Im worried the increased idle will produce excessive exhasut and fail the test. But I guess they are checkign content of the fumes and not the quantity

not sure about your idol problems but one thing that helps pass emissions test is to fill up with premium, run the tank down to almost empty and then fill up with premium again and do the etest. my uncle did that when he owned my car and it passed emissions every time with no problems.

I hear that, but its gotta be premium with 10% ethanol, because ethanol lowers emissions... WOuldnt 87 have a more complete burn? I keep getting told this premium gas trick but it dosnt sound logical to me : / Has anyone else has success with this method?

you need to use sunoco i think it is because of their additives and such. its not the same with the other stations/companies

just so you know...when you mess with that idle screw you need to jump terminals T and E1 in the diagnostic box.

uh oh.. i just adjusted mine today.. car was idling at 700 rpm in neutral.. and like 5 in drive gears.. sometimes it would cut out.. i loosened the screw to bring it to 900 in neutral, 700 in drive gears
