punk....you could go out and get a later 3SGE. I did. I have a 3rd Gen 3SGE and the thing is badass. Total upgradability.
you do have to remember how old these are. do you know about r series? m series? jz series? hell lets get outside the box: b-series honda...lots of issues, d-series honda, chevy v8s, ford...anything. for a 20 year old motor and well over 21 year old design we are in great shape. sorry for the rant.
oh i fully took that into consideration. don't get me wrong, it's really just a personal experience and preference. I like my celica, but for me I get frustrated doing even the smallest things on it. That and I am not a fan of the tilted engine. I know it is really nothing more than positioning, but i hate not being able to get behind the head at all. damn good power and reliability though. I can't kill it even if I tried.
I started this not believing that the GE series didn't continue on the American continents, or Africa for that matter. Considering that, I still think it was a major mistake on their part, but you can't change history. The A and S motors have stood the test of time, there are way worse motors to work on. Recently I changed waterpumps on my girlfriends 4A-FE and it turned out harder to do than the S-FE motors (I left the pulley till last and had to take it all off again to get the pulley on). Most FWD motors are a PITA to work on in the car, even horizontal motors like the Subaru and Alfasud are an absolute headache to change head gaskets or clutches. Personally the waterpump and oilpump driving off the cambelt scares me (most cars drive the oilpump from the crank and the waterpump from the alternator belt - far safer and reliable) Our cars (RHD) have the Brake master and Clutch master behind the head as well as the P/Steering pump, so I think you LHD guys actually got it easy...
hey i agree that the ends justify the means. just a little more difficult for me is all. smart guy that angle man.
