Re: Rev heads work in progress * UPDATE 5th APRIL*

did some work on the bonnet today at work. Fixed the scoop in place using special and EXPENSIVE stuff called panel bond. This is the stuff that rangerover uses to hold there alluminium door skins on and its held only by that.
i applied that and clamped it in place its set rock solid no way in hell that things going anywhere and it has also put a shitload of strenght back in. I would actually be inclined to say its actually stronger than before the supports were cut and by a fair margin

I also spent a bit of time cleaning up and tidying the cuts on the inside of the bonnet. its hard to tell with the pics but so far its actually looking very neat and flowing on the bottom.

the pictures dont seem to do it justice. it may not look like it but i am very happy with the progress and i was very worried about the cutting and fitting stage as iv never done such a thing before.
Hopefully i will be able to have it ready for primer by the end of the week but works been prity busy atm so no guarantees.

ok work has been ridiculous lately and as im the apprentice i am copping alot of the overtime wich i wouldnt complain about if they actually paid me it!
anywho started glassing the bonnet today

this is actually my 1st time with fibreglass but i think i went ok. Tomorow should be less busy at work and am hoping to finish the glass stage and get the 1st coat of bog in have also noticed a few small dings in the bonnet that il habe to fix (they wont take long). I'm still hopeful itl be in primer before the weekend!

    Hey man coming along nicely.
How are the rear speakers holding up with your new stereo?
Once you get a new unit i will fix your amp connections up and redo your tweeters for you man.

I may have to look at your old alarm system also to see what wires aren't being used and see if we can remove it and clean the wires up a bit mate.

But that bonnets is coming along nicely.
I live 50 meters from where the bonnet is and I'm to lazy to have a look lol.
    Maybe tomorrow.

Re: Rev heads work in progress * UPDATE 5th APRIL*

yesterday i filled up the last little bits that were lacking a bit of glass.
today i got into work early and rubbed down the glass and put my 1st coat of bog in
    [IMG]

i know it looks messy but keep in mind its a large area i was working with so you only have so much time to work the bog in until it startes to cure.

after work i rubbed it back and was really REALLY! pleased with how well it came up mainly due to the shaping from the glass being far better than i had hoped. unfortunately i forgot to take a pic!
i then put a tight skim in
    [IMG]

i think that the top should be finished by monday night as the bog doesnt require much attention and will finish with a coat of fine fill. Then onto the bottom as it looks quite messy and i wanna glass the bottom in and make it look as factory possible.
i know its alot of updates but im very excited its turning out alot better than i had hoped! if i wasnt as fussy i could have gotten away with just the 1st coat of filler and just fine filling it!

    its almost there!

i surprised even myself in how well the shape has turned out!
all thats left to do is
-fine fill any pinholes or deep scratch marks.
-clean up the underside, thinking il just use kitty hair (fibreglass filler)
-Fix a couple of small dings (10minutes)
-wizzy it with 240 and then its time for primer yay!!!!

also to avoid cop attention im gunna spray it red instead of leaving it in highfill, theres a car in at work atm with a similar red so il jst take the slops of that and do a bodgy on the top for now.

Re: Rev heads work in progress * BONNETS IN PRIMER! 4th May*

    ITS ON!!!!!!!!!!

the color is very dark and the paint quality leaves alot to be desired but in short i dont give a rats ass coz the whole car color will b channged this year anywayz :lolhit:

Tomorow il fit the mech and actually allign it properly. We put it on while paint was still wet and in the dark lol. il give it til the weekend and then cut n polish it wich should hopefully lighten it a little.
Important thing is im wrapped with how the shape came out and i have learnt alot and am alot more confident in my abilitys as a panel beater after this.
heres a teaser shot il take a good pic tomorow

Finally something different between our rides, my bonnet is totally light and faded and now your is really dark.

Actually doesn't look to bad but like sr5punk said, are you going to mesh the inlet?

Nice look mate, i wanna do something like that!! maybe if you come to adelaide, you could help me with that!! those tail lights you brought from me should go quite well! and those lights are actual JDM ST165 Taillights, so they should help complete your look! and the surround is silver, you going to leave it silver, or repaint it to match your car?

Re: Rev heads work in progress * BONNETS ON!!!!!!!*

thanks for the comments guys except Jon, thats very inappropriate and hurtful haha. i already told you ya should just move out here!

I put mesh in today, fitted the washer jets and tried to allign it. its not the best but right now im over it i still have the skirts and rear bar to repair and concentrate on. Plus by the looks of the headlights and engine bay its had a whole front right corner repaired before so il fix it properly when i strip her down.

The paint is absolute poo haha to say the least but as iv said previously cept the only thing is as we didnt block it back properly theres still some 240 scratches that the paint sunk into and the runs my lord the runs haha. im waiting til the weekend and il sand back all the runs with some 800 and polish her up, wich should lighten it a lil.

i also just recieved post tails including the vents today from ST162Coupe that are in good condition will fit them on the w/e i guess.
