does anyone know if they still make carbon fiber hoods for our cars??? i was looking around and couldn't find any. i would love to have one.
Very Expensive... and yeah I did a search for them some time ago and never found anything... though if you had the money, I'm sure there is a shop in town who would make one for you
dang, the first one that i've ever heard of. i have to see it. he had to have posted that up some time ago, you think? well, off to ask. thanks dudes.
Has your rich girlfriend got a sister? Realistically not many of us can afford C/F. Fiberglass hood & fenders would be fine for me, and way easier to repair or mod. Now if only we could find that guy who was making them!
i wouldnt recomend it but if you were wanting jst the look you could use fake cf vinyl wrap. It can come out quite well when applied properly however even for me i think thats a bit to ricy and wanky
Yeah besides that, a decent carbon print on real vinyl will cost more than a fiberglass hood. Those carbon print vinyls are meant for interior use only and peel in no time. I covered my roof in black Controltac for fun the other day, a shop would have charged $200-300 - add another $200 for the print. Don't even think of applying it yourself, even the pro's f/up sometimes!
I do have one. It was custom made by somebody. Unsure of who. I think its a one and only kinda deal. Looks like crap as the carbon fiber split and was laid two pieces next to each other down the middle. Defiinitely light though. I know the previous owner was asking $450 for just the hood. I had it for sale for a while on the alltrac boards as everybody knew what it looked like. No takers, so I kept it. Its now sitting in my garage. If I ever get another celica it will go on there, and be painted, as I have plans to cut the hood anyway. Sorry guys. No pics. Probably never will be until I get another car.
dang, too bad the only one that was made and known had to come out looking like shit. if i were to ever get one i'd try to make it one peice or as least line it up to make it look like it was one. thanks dudes.
The CF vinyl isn't too bad, but stig is right - you have to use special edge sealer or it WILL peel-up. The printed "vehicle wrap" style CF looks too cheezy and it does cost 200-300 - no thanks. Personally, I wish someone in the states would do 'glass hoods and trunk lids - now that would be cool -K
well i guess i'm just going to repaint my car. make it white with a black hood and the tops of the head lights as well. can anyone picture that? can anyone PS that?
The much awaited, finally got it down, really shitty job 1 of 1 carbon fiber hood pics. This hood may weigh 5-10 lbs if that. Can be easily moved 1 handed. (I'm not a very big guy. About average build.)
