Ok so today being the first sunday I've had off in 4 months I figured I'd take the missus for a cruise in the celica since it's been running well so I went out to warm her up and headed out, but after about 10km the engine light came on, holy crap, so I pulled over and checked my fluids, oil a little low but everythings seems fine, has been driving real nice too so it's come as a real surprise. I checked my manual and the useless thing just says take it to a toyota dealer. It does indicate however that there's a problem with the electrical system so now I'm packin myself. The only thing I can think of that bad in my electrical system could maybe be the alt, simply because my volt meter moves when I indicate and put my windows down and when I mentioned this to a mate he said it wasn't right for it to do that so hear I am asking the experts. Please help
could be a few different things. check plugs and wires to make sure they are not misfiring. o2 sensor. take it to a shop if nothing else they can diagnose it for less than 70 at most places.
That is normal voltage drop. All my Celicas do that because it's a drain on the system. Besides the check engine light, are there any other warning lights on? I've found that if my alternator is faulty, other warning lights will also come on.
Bridge T and E1 (From memory) in the check engine connector, and read out the fault codes. Most likely will be code 21 (2 flashes in quick sucession, pause, one flash, longer pause, repeat) which is o2, but if not look up the code
yeah i posted this while on my girlfriends phone while we were off to the movies so i did a diagnosis when i got home, sure enough Code 21 pops up, fantastic, now i gotta hunt down a O2 sensor, god damn expensive pieces of shit they are. i didn't know that would bring the light on though. So once i replace the sensor that engine light shouldn't bother me again should it. it's the only code that popped up.
