Replacing rad in '88 GTS. Who's had what kinda experience w/ Koyo (Part # 1640074070), Proliance (Part # 433277), or SPECTRA PREMIUM (Part # CU836). These are the ones I see on Rock Auto. Anyone w/ another 'favorite' brand?

I'm inclined towards the Proliance since it seems to be the only one specific to the GTS. My second choice is the Koyo (says GTS or Alltrac), and the SP says basically fits all (probably not). Thanks.

That was my original goal, to find an all metal one. After searching the web, I can't find any except from the dealership. Do you know a brand that makes a no-plastic one for our cars?

That's odd, my SPECTRA PREMIUM (Part # CU836) is all-metal, no crappy plastic tanks.
I figured you guys in the USA would have a lot to choose from.

And that was a straight drop-in? No mods? That'd be sweet as it's the cheapest on Rock Auto.

^Yep, straight drop-in, no mods. Single core. It was for my 89GTS but IIRC, it's the same for the ST and GT too.
I got it about 8 years ago and someone said they stopped making them all-metal and went with plastic tanks later on. Dunno if that's true or not though....

Yup, just checked and SPECTRA PREMIUM is now plastic, as are the other two offered by Rock Auto. So, I'm back at "does anyone know of an all metal radiator for my '88 GTS?" Thanks.

Okay, how about non-direct fit? And how non-direct fit (i.e., what has to be modified)?

We had an aluminum radiator custom made for the ST165. Drop-in fit. Although I haven't test fit it into the 162 yet, I expect it to fit fine as everything with the GTS aligns the same as the 165. An order of 50 pieces is being produced right now.

Cracks. (More so with the 3SGTE - high heat from turbo).

ah, I should have known. If your in the junkyard just look for some from a toyota. I got a cressida rad in mine now, but its like 1 inch taller and longer, barley fits in the front of the car and dosnt sit 100% right, but it has mad cooling capabilities compared to the stock one [IMG]

  14. I have an all aluminum one in my 88 GTS. I will have to look too see if i can find a maker or something. I have had a couple people ask about it and I havent found any info on it. Ill look a little harder next time.

EDIT: I just noticed this thread is HELLLLLAAAAA old... my bad ROFL.

This thread is back from the dead b/c it's still relevant.

I wonder if your aluminum rad was a modified or custom job. I've seen aluminum with plastic end tanks, but not for the 162.
I'd be curious to see who the maker was.

  16. I know it's a stock replacement for something, its definitely not modified in any way. I remember the old owner always had problems with the top of the stock one leaking and eventually sourced an aluminum one and bolted it in. I would ask the guy that purchased the radiator but sadly he has passed away.
