This is a Taylor battery box kit I got. I picked the back left corner of the hatch for a couple of reasons. It is to big to fit on the floor behind the seats so that meant it had to go in the hatch. In the hatch there is more room on the drivers side than their is on the passenger side and I wanted to keep it far enough away from the interior panels that I would not be restricted in the placement of speakers.

I don't like drilling holes in the car so the back bar is welded to the floor of the hatch and the front bar is mounted in a hole drilled into the cover for the gas tank wires. Seeing as the battery is pretty much right in line with my head in the event of a collision I wanted to make sure the battery is pretty firmly attached.

    Test fit the new box.

Here the box is installed backwards so you can see the location where the + & - cables exit. A little higher up on the left side of the box is an extra hole which they provide a fitting for a piece of plastic hose.

I duct taped the fuel wires in place and added a few blocks of wood to level out the floor. You can also see in this picture the piece of plastic tube that I have run through a plastic plug that will vent battery gas that is given of during the charging process.

Here the battery is all nice and snug in its new home.

So thats where it sits now. I still have the battery up front 2 so I have not run the wires for the box yet. I may get a battery isolator which would allow me to run 1 battery for the engine and keep the second battery for powering accesories like my amps. Although it would be real nice to get rid of the battery in the engine compartment and get a bit of space in the engine bay. Before I got a Trac I thought the GTS was pretty well stuffed into the engine bay but then I got the Trac and discovered that they really could fit a bunch more stuff in. I once went to loot at a 4th gen with a 3sfe engine and thought they must have forgotten to put half the engine components in, you could practically climb inside the engine bay to work on the engine.....

hey so whats the best way to run ur battery wires ? ps i dont have a all trac , and 4 gauge or lower for wire am i correct ? and a battery master swtich 150 amp correct ? , ok also for the wire i just put a arrow on m whats the best way to deal with that , i know once i take the ground wire off i have to reground that wire to the body , and from the battery in the back

i am planning to do this cuz i really want a cold air box im even gonna cut the holes in my grill for the air to flow better , hmm poor grill !

bottom pic is the battery box im looking at going to go in the left side pouch

Well I don't know about 4 guage. My system came with 2 guage battery cable and I could have got 1 guage battery or welding cable. I have not found my battery switch yet so I don't know how many amps it's rated for. I would think 150 would be plenty.

I don't have a rear seat so I like to run my wires right down the middle inside a protective conduit

Your cars are all backwards so you will have to investigate but on normal celica's the passenger side has a protective cover that you could run the wire through. The drivers side will allready be pretty full of wires.

I would detach the fusebox at the green arrow which will give you a good mounting point for the +'ve cable from the trunk.

Solidly mount the fusebox in a suitable location so that the positive tab is isolated from any ground points.

if you run an optima battery (or any other sealed battery) you dont need a battery box, but i guess it keeps it from rolling around anyways

    Looks great :wtg:

I am overly cautious when it comes to my baby so I would cover any positive wires in a protective casing. If either the yellow wire or black wire rubs on the inner fender and wears through you could have a very serious issue.

the battery cable wire is soo thick my scissors cudnt cut thru it ! , so i had to use these garden branch clippers lol , oh the yellow wire is a cover thats covers 2 wires inside it :D oh yeah im getting the casing stuff this week hopefully i got 2 other sets of wires hanging in there one for leds and 1 for to switch on and off my headlight motors

As per an older post, yes the drivers side is full of wires. the passenger side I think has a good bit of room.

Yeah those are my babies a couple of 1 cubic foot ported sub enclosures with 10" rockford fosgate speakers and a 20 year old kenwood amp.

Seatbelts are a precaution so that when I'm doing serious brakeing I don't smack myself in the back of the head with 10 pounds of speaker still travelling forwards at 60 - 70 mph.

I had them in the hatch of my GTS but All Trac hatchs are way smaller so I scrapped the useless back seat and stuck them there for now until I fix the rear fenders & wheel wells

if you find that your alternator is overcharging and or your always having to jump your car is because you dont have a sealed battery, and the battery you have needs to breath, if you r best thing would be to leave the top off..... so you dont start to boil the battery acid inside...

is there anyway you could completly hide the battery from sight altogether?? like mount it into the back floor or something??i think thats what they do in bmw's?

If your relocating your battery to the back of the car I recommend useing a properly designed battery box for the job. The battery while being charged can give off hydrogen and oxygen gasses. A properly designed battery box is designed to vent these gasses.

I would not advise leaving the lid of the battery box off.

As you can see in the following 2 pictures the battery box is designed to vent gases to the exterior of the car.

The battery box has 3 holes, the 2 with black rubber grommets are for the 2 battery cables, the hole on the left side without a black rubber grommet is for venting gases to the exterior of the car.

Here you can see where I have routed the ventilation tube to the exterior of the car.

Here you can see the ventilation tube (white plastic piece & clear plastic tubing)hooked up to the left of the red battery cable.

but would it not be an idea to manufacture a wut in the boot floor , renforce it with steel so it wont get damaged and sink the battery down so it looks like the car has no battery?? i think that would be wicked cool!! :D
