Guys, are the engines in a 86 celica with a 3SGE - the same as a 88 celica 3SGE engine ? l know the deloust the an engine, but think that was the FE one right ?
I'm sorry but that's not true. There are different head's on earlier 4th gens like mine was en later versions. 1111-88360 in mine :
definitely not true. usdm egr ports in the 86-87 3SGE are in the exhaust manifold, while 88-89 are on the head in front of the distributor. i believe different injectors were used as well. hence why you can't use pre-facelift ECU in facelift ECU. also there are gold top 3SGE otherwise known as europe/japan 3SGEU that is higher compression than the usdm 3SGELC. hence why you have ranges from 157hp to 135hp across different 3S-GE across all 4th gens
3 major different ones...before you even get to area specific differences in 86 there was a 6 bolt 3sge (yet to see one) 86-88 early 88 late-89 then edm, udsm, adm, jdm but you can interchange most parts between them and what not.
Minor technicalities. For all intent & purpose, they're the same. Most of the differences anyway are all ECU based. Not many physical more electronic.
This thread is relevant to my interests... I'm actually doing a swap and need to figure out the importance of some of these differences. What would one need to change to put a Later version Gen 1 3sge in an earlier one? I don't actually want to hijack this thread so if you want you can answer in my post. http://www.st162.net/forum/showthre...an-87-3sge-to-an-89-3sge-what-needs-to-change
