Euro 4gen verts were all made in Germany, and US verts made in California.
Main difference : german verts were based on the liftback (manual Targa type top), and US models were based on the coupe (more conventional one-part powered top).

So, where does Chan110 convertible come from??? RHD US vert model? Odd, no?

According to Wikipedia, Japan made 4gen convertibles in 1988. Product codes ST162C. Powered with 3SFE engine only and structurally close to the american model (conventional top).

    Japanese import.
    RHD with power hood.
Been told on CCUK that my car more similar to US convertible than UK ones with manual hood.

SilverShadow on here also confirm its more akin to US model (since german version also manual roof).

Well, still hadnt the time to take that hydraulics apart.
Its looks more like it will go to a more capable hands (celica garage) whos gonna give it the once over.
Garage has some hydraulic fluid to topup my leaked hydraulics.
Also will look at sealing the underside with POR15.
Temp+pressure a little irratic (temp 1/3 up and pressure 3/4 up).
Idle rev of 500rpm seem a little weak (abt to stall).
Would be good to know where to get parts for my car..as unsure at the mo what UK used parts fits my car.
E.g. Clock face cracked and some dash/fascia boards a bit old/cracked so wouldnt mind replacing them sometime.

Wings and cluster lights seem also different to UK spec.
E.g. I hav indictors at bumper level, but UK ones hav higher up on wing.
Also i have rear brake drums, but UK ones have all round discs :-(

Could do with a nice stereo too! :)

Yes, your car is japanese so you have the same front wings than in japan, but the same corner lights and folding mirrors than in Europe.
Interesting model, probably the only one in Europe. :p
Your engine should be a 3S-FE (marked Toyota 2000 16 valve on rocker cover and EFI on injection).
Do you have 4 or 5 wheel lugs?

Really nice car, and really nice wheels, I love them.

For your rear drums, a rear discs conversion is possible but I think you'll have to change the master-cylinder too (ask to our mechanical gurus Stig or Mafix).
For your rear lights, you have the "post facelift" (beginning in 1988) coupe lights. European convertibles are all "pre-facelift" (1986/1987) models so the rear lights are differents.

    It's a 3S-FE engine. Japanese specs : 120 HP/5600 rpm.

    Cheers pal - interesting suggestion.....
...will need to seriously think about it in the near future - for now too many other things to fix/do and the bill keeps rising - and the work not even started yet! :eek5

As expected with the rams. Remember that those rams/seals are over 20 years old.

The more I look at them it looks like the top unscrews which is where the offending seals are. Ask Martin to keep all the seals and take a pic for us.

You can tell alot about a car from the underside and how it was treated over the years, looks good and mine looks similar.
