I have a low km gen 2 3sge and gen 3 3sge, and i need one of them to replace the dead gen 1 sittin in my 87' st162. Which would be easiest to fit? I'd prefer to use the gen 2 and save the gen 3 for my other car. Might seem lame, but i don't want to use another gearbox, as i don't have a spare. and the original works. i just need to get back on the road asap. are the flywheels different? can i use the 162 flywheel? and clutch? any or links to threads would be awesomely appreciated. I just need to get mobile again, i'm carless and am being forced to hop back on the old push bike

gen 2 is way easier. it will run off a gen 1 loom and ecu (wont get gen 2 power though) im not sure how much modefying needs to be done to the loom but i would assume any work needed would mainly be extending wiring. clutch and flywheel should be the same depending on the crank bolt pattern but hopefully someone else can confirm this.
gen 3 is a much bigger fuck around with mounts, crossmember modding and ecu and loom

I would assume the fly and clutch will be fine, but I couldn't tell you, just give her a try?

nope shel drop straight in same mounts as a gen 1 its essentially the same engine just different intake manifold and a better breathing head

Gen1 & 2 flywheels aren't swappable without swapping cranks. You may be able to use the old clutch though
I'd keep the gen1 loom, AFM, T/B etc and use the gen2 intake pipe. You may have to swap injector leads or injectors as the injectors have different plugs. Refer to bluestreaks thread for info and how-to as he's busy fitting a gen2

It can be done with the rev 2 motor. Stig is right about the injector plugs they need to be swapped. You can run the T-Vis gear and gen 1 TB to keep the rest of the harness intact, but you will need to make a few mods. Have a look at my thread and if you have any Q's I'll do my best to help.

If you don't want to change the injector plugs - fit some 3T-GTE injectors (1800 turbo - 295cc), they have the same square plugs and are big enough for the gen2? - p/number: 23250-28011
For the throttle body swap, I'd suggest a thick mounting plate to get it away from the oil sender etc. Also the FE has a tiny oil sender which may work with the GE gauges?

The only thing I would say about using a thick plate for the TB is that there is not a huge amount of room for the AFM plus filter etc as is!!
